I’m not a magician. I don’t have any tricks up my sleeves, no rabbits pulled out of a hat, no making people disappear and reappear, but I have to brag a little bit and say that this bathroom makeover might have involved the word, abracadabra.
Here is the bathroom before… well, sort of before. I was so excited to start painting that I forgot to take a photo before the paint. You can imagine how stark the bathroom was before the splash of color.
BEFORE

We changed out the standard shower curtain rod for a curved one and hung a colorful shower curtain from Target. Even just the paint and shower curtain make a huge difference.

AFTER

Please excuse the Halloween clings on the mirrors! I’m a bit of a dork, so yeah… it’s what I do.
A lot of the decor was taken from different parts of the house or things that I had purchased on clearance and stashed away. I included it in the total cost anyways.
- Paint from Lowe’s – $18
- Shower Curtain from Target – $18
- Shower Curtain Rod from Lowe’s – $20 on sale
- Organic towels from JCPenney – $40 for several sets of bath, hand and face towels (these were 75% off, yay!) – They were a little more than I would typically spend on towels, but they’re organic and the softest towels I’ve ever laid hands on.
- Bamboo rugs from JCPenney – $16 for two (again 75% off!)
- Etagere over the tolilet from Wal-Mart – $15
- Random accessories and baskets – approximately $20 (most are from Bath and Body Works Outlet, check their 75% off sales after the holidays for great deals on baskets and containers)
Grand total – $163. The magical part of this makeover is how much it would have cost had I not scored deals on clearance racks and outlets. The towel sets alone would have cost me $160. The rugs would have cost $64, and the baskets and containers would have cost me around $80. That’s a total of $304, not including the paint, shower curtain, shower rod and etagere.
There you have it! A new bathroom! I love the yellow as the standout color complemented by earthy but refreshing colors. A few touches of bright hues inserted not-so-subtly really sets my heart ablaze.

[...] Here is the original post: Bathroom Makeover Magic [...]
I came over here from the link you posted on YHL’s blog and I’m sorry but I’m totally not liking this. Wayyyyyyyy too cluttered for me. I would have left only 1 or 2 things on the bathroom countertop rather than the roll of papertowels, the different mismatched neon caddies, eek! And I’m definitely not a fan of those enormous over-the-toilet bathroom towers. I guess my style is more YHL, clean and white without any clutter.
Yeah, after taking the photos, I realized that it was a bit cluttered as well. While I love and adore YHL’s style and their insanely clever ideas, I tend to go more for function than style. This is actually the bathroom I use (as opposed to the master bath), so that’s why I’ve got everything within arm’s reach. As much as I would LOVE to be able to stash everything away and have a mostly empty countertop, it just isn’t functional for me (now our guest bathroom is clean and clutter-less!) I do agree I’ve definitely got to find somewhere to stash the papertowels away!
